Complicated indeed. Thank you for sharing your opinions and for reading my article.

I am still waiting for the comment that doesn't rush to defend because that was not the intent of my piece. It was more to discuss the blatant hypocrisy of men who wrote our founding documents while simultaneously owning enslaved humans.

Not one person has addressed that without rushing to the defense of these men. I find that very telling of the condition of this country.

Racism IS in the fabric of this country. The majority of the men who founded it viewed the Africans as property and even Lincoln didn't agree with equality while he did create their emancipation.

I'm not sure many people delve into these documents and are content to just quote what suits a point, but these documents reveal much about these men that America simply refuses to address because that would open a can of worms and would lead to a reckoning with slavery, and we all know no one wants to do that.
