I was hesitant when I wrote part one of this series because I wasn’t sure how it would be received.

My genuine desire was to facilitate an open and honest discussion between Black and White women to dispel myths, clarify racial ambiguities, and most importantly to HUMANIZE Black women.

I was pleasantly surprised by the response from White women and happy that it spawned some thoughtful and productive conversations. I hope this will add to the progress caused by this open dialogue on race, no matter how small the impact.

Every little bit counts.

What was a bit interesting, although certainly not surprising, was the backlash I received from some White men. I’m no stranger to patriarchy, like all women in this country, or to the fact that when it’s coupled with blatant racism it is served upon the most vicious and venomous platter, with the sole intent of disabling its female target.

Thankfully, being a Black woman in America has not allowed me the luxury of being thin-skinned, so ridiculous comments of me being a racist or claiming “victimization” will hardly cause me to lose sleep at night.
