Hi Chris, and thank you so much for reading. I cannot speak for other countries, but considering the history in the US (chattle slavery, systemic racism, ongoing discrimination and dehumanization of Black people) yes, we are very bothered by it and it's highly offensive.

Consider seeing slaves on auction blocks. They were dehumanized as potential enslavers picked over them, touched their bodies and hair as if they were inanimate objects. This has extended through centuries where Black people, women in particular, are viewed as objects and not human beings.

When a Black woman is asked about her hair, there is a fascination as if we are not human and some sort of odd commodity that should be on display. There's not enough room here to teach all the history of Black people in the US, but I assure you our experience is much different of that of your beautiful children.
