Hi Chris, and thank you so much for reading. I've been away for a while working on projects and I'm sorry I've missed some of your replies but I will go back and respond to them. I always appreciate your thoughtful responses and the honest way you discuss each topic. I truly wish you were the norm and not the exception!
It's often difficult for non-Black people to see past the indoctrination of how this country presents us as opposed to the reality of who we are and I thank you for being open enough to explore it.
And yes, FDR was most certainly acting in a way that felt completely normal for him. Black people were and continue to be dehumanized in this country. In order to justify the wrongs, a certain amount of cognitive dissonance is required of those in power to enable them to enact policies that clearly promote continued and systemic racism and discrimination.
I have never revered the constitution. It's impossible for me to do as a Black woman because to me, it's the most hypocritical document ever created. With words of "all men are created equal" that reduced my ancestors to 3/5ths of a human, did not mention women, and was written by owners of enslaved humans, it is not a document that means very much to me.
Thank you again for your thoughtfulness and your rich contributions to this necessary conversation. You are much appreciated.
