Hi Rex, thank you for your comment as a geneticist. I tend to agree with Cathy that this is only the beginning and I suspect there will be much more found as the research continues.
For your reference, you can search Dr. Joy DeGruy, who has been a principal researcher for PTSS and searching her name should reveal a great deal more information regarding her studies.
It would be logical to suggest there isn’t a great demand for this type of study nor would there be a plethora of information available since the desire to tie any affects of slavery to those of us who are descendants of slaves might give credence to the reparations conversation. And that is obviously a discussion this country is not pressed to begin.
I would submit that any epigenetic findings would be used to substantiate the behavior and psychological findings researched by Black mental health professionals. Living as a Black person with the knowledgeable of my origin and stories of my ancestors that have been passed down through generations, it’s makes logical sense to me that there must be some sort of correlation between the events of the past and how we function today as a people.
Dr. DeGruy has also written a very informative book on her findings that might be of interest to you since this is your field of expertise.
Thank you for reading.
