Honestly, it matters not to me if he would have gone broke or not. As a Black person, I would never be concerned about the livelihood of an enslaver, rapist and child molester. Never in a million years.
And yes, Jefferson also did good things but I don't believe they were done out of a love for Black people or because he felt Black people were equal and deserved freedom. These decisions were financial decisions that were made based on how the White population would be affected. This is why when slavery was abolished, other factors were created to keep Black people in servitude, one way or another. It was masked oppression in more creative ways but that led to the end result of Black people being disenfranchised.
I can acknowledge the good of people and also look to their flaws as a reminder that they are not superhumans at the same time. I am a believer in the whole truth - not just the truth patriotic (and often time racist) Americans would like for us to believe.
