I felt every word of this response and completely understand the frustration that comes with speaking out. It's as if racism is a new situation because so many white people want instructions on what they should do. There are a plethora of examples of what can be done but I think feigning ignorance is another way to continue being apathetic. I've seen white people get behind causes, fight for women's equality and the like, but eradicating racism still brings blank faces and confusion.

I wish I could say I was surprised that your friend didn't respond back, but that's what's happened to me as well whenever the conversations get closer to real accountability. It's so difficult for white people to say "racism is real" without negating that statement with the word "but" as they go on to discredit it by saying things like, it happened before they were born, they are racist so not everyone is racist, or putting the responsibility and blame on Black people, who are the victims of the atrocious behavior.

We aren't angry Black women, we are tired and working to save the lives of future generations. That angry Black woman trope is yet another form of control, but we will all stand up and control our OWN narratives. Thank you so much for this thought-proving comment and for taking the time to read my article. I'm so happy to have connected with you.
