I haven't watched much TV lately and I'm so grateful for your description of this show. I'll definitely check it out this weekend. This highlight is so powerful. The incentives to having closer proximity to Whiteness have caused so much emotional harm to our people, further perpetuating a self-hatred and belief that being White is the only way to have a happy, successful life.
Colonizers were certainly savage with their physical treatment of humans, but it's the psychological affects left behind (ie., colorism, the desire/necessity to pass) that continue to play out throughout generations. When I think of people passing, my heart is heavy for the fear and anxiety they must have felt to live a lie and constantly worry about getting caught. I'm glad Netflix is exploring this and always thankful for your excellent and informative articles. Thank you.
