It’s not always about the money for Black people. Yes, it’s nice to have an increase in finances, but the trauma for Black people goes much deeper than making a buck. Money does not cure all ills or heal all wounds. Being displaced means once again giving what we have worked for to White people who continuously do not allow us full autonomy of our lives. The fact that White people would think making millions on a home would substitute the love, memories, and family created in these places that are now completely whitewashed is unfortunately typical. Money is not everything to everyone. I know people personally affected by gentrification and I can say with complete certainty it is not a blessing for everyone; except maybe for the White people who have taken over their neighborhoods.
