Just an FYI - in a country that was built on and continues to perpetuate racist ideals and values, it's virtually impossible for a Black person not to focus on racism. Do you honestly think it's our choice to do this? There isn't a Black person in this world who wakes up excited to face racism or to have to think about it in whatever we do when engaging with white people to keep ourselves and our families safe. I would like nothing more than to never thing or speak about racism ever again. Especially when I do and I receive comments where people are referring to me as the problem.
I do not perpetuate racism. I do not hate white people. I do not discriminate in my life. I would prefer that all people treat one another as human beings. But I did not create this system, I was only born into it and born with brown skin that causes others to treat me as if I am less than human because of it.
It's exhausting to continue to justify what even Stevie Wonder can see, because he is also an activist. Black people wouldn't have to focus on racism if white people would cease to practice it. PERIOD. And gentrification is not the answer - it simply displaces our elderly family members to make room for more white people moving in and taking over our neighborhoods.
So again, my question in this article was, what do you plan to do, if anything, to help eradicate racism from where you stand? I'm not talking grand gestures or saving the world, but every single person on earth has the ability to do something if they claim to care about all human beings.
