Not to start this up again (because it’s the weekend and I’m talking to you almost as much as my fiancé’!) but I’m confused that you say “If I thought you overstepped I would have said so”. I thought that was the entire purpose of this back and forth because you took issue with what I said in my article?

Also, we actually feel the same way about something. Just as you are passionate about the ramifications of the entire history being told that may not be positive, we as Black people have been subjected to this SINCE THE INCEPTION OF THIS COUNTRY.

We have been portrayed as lazy, uneducated, underprivileged, criminal, welfare mothers, etc., This country has ZERO desire to discuss the full ramifications of slavery and how those effects affect Black people’s ability to thrive.

This country was not built on equality. Less than 200 years ago my people were enslaved and as the constitution remains relevant so does the institution of slavery that made all those founding fathers wealthy off the backs of my ancestors.

The story of White America has been told and put in a neat little box to preserve the lack of the whole truth. And if that’s not enough laws are being passed to further hide America’s ill deeds. So for me it’s ridiculous to even bat a lash at the fact that the truth about men who stole, beat, raped and enslaved humans should be told.

Again, the entire truth cannot be negotiated. History should not be piecemealed. Without the whole story, the truth is not told, and that has been the intention of this country and others who fight to protect it.

If we tell the whole story, slavery has to be addressed and God forbid White people have to talk about THAT. Then we might actually have to teach all children the truth that the condition of Black people in this country is due to the racism and disenfranchisement that is the fabric of the good ol USA, and not the apathy they have been conditioned to believe.

I know why you and others fight to regulate history and to me it’s just confirmation of what most already know about this country.

I appreciate the dialogue but it also saddens me to once again acknowledge how little progress has been made in spite of all the loss of life.
