Thank you for writing this piece, especially as a Black man. Those of us who weren't born light-skinned have heard the "you're pretty for a dark-skinned woman" left-handed compliment one time too many and it really does hurt. Athletes and celebrities still gravitate towards women with more Eurocentric features or those who are racially ambiguous. I work with young women and girls to promote self-esteem and empowerment and colorism is a huge issue that I find is harder to discuss than racism because our community often refuses to see the historical context behind this condition that is often passed of as simply a preference.
