The fact that you state it would be a "slanting of the field in a new direction" gives credence to the current field being slanted in the favor of White America.

DEI was not designed to create more opportunities for Black people - it was designed to ensure that ALL Americans had the same opportunities.

There is no debate that this country operates in favor of its White citizens. There is no White person in this country who ever has to worry about discrimination on an institutionalized level simply because of the color of their skin. That does not exist.

This country was built on White supremacy and every institution still adheres to this philosophy in some form or fashion. Saying that the attempt to give Black people the same rights and opportunities as Whites is a form of revenge on the part of those who fight for equity, as opposed to it being the RIGHT thing to do since we are ALL American citizens, is proof of the fear that White America feels fairness to all will somehow take something away from them.

It will also serve to make mediocre White people have to work a little harder for what they earn as opposed to just receiving it simply because they are white. I'm sure that's not something some White people aren't ready to face either.

So instead of understanding that a country whose foundation is supposed to be "all men are created equal" has inherently struggled with putting this ideal into practice, programs that promote diversity are criticized because of the fear of losing what some didn't fairly earn in the first place.
