This is so terribly sad. Colorism is such a hurtful sickness in our communities and is even more difficult to address than racism. As a brown-skinned Black woman, I’ve felt the sting of it more times than I care to remember. This article was a painful reminder that it exists all over the world and that white supremacy has a far-reaching hand.
It’s a shame when one Black woman sees her sister she would suggest that an improvement on her God-given looks would be needed and not simply see her own beauty in your reflection. Your response was empowering and I just wish the women in that store had your same level of self-love. Black woman are being mentally degraded on all levels and colorism is t even acknowledged as much as racism by our own people. Thank you so much for writing this important article that doesn’t receive enough attention. 🙏🏽
