Unfortunately, like Sharon, I'm not surprised. It's something Black women have always dealt with not only in the athletic world, but in every arena, as you stated in this highlight. We raise our daughters to understand this and as a mother, it's a horrible thing to have to explain the realities of a this world. And there's always just room for one of us to shine. You are always "the next whomever". We don't have the freedom of being seen as individuals or to be granted an abundance of space to be great. It is beyond exhausting when all we want to do is share our gifts with the world.
